Collette Orji - The Bondage of religious people and their secret envy of the free minded...

On returning to Nigeria at 18, I attended 'mass' and I think it was just before holy communion I noticed that two women were kneeling down in punishment mood in front of the altar facing the whole congregation.

Well, I had to ask, of course, I was told her punishment was she had sex and had a baby before marriage. That she was doing her sins for penance. And as usual and the mother will do her own penance before she can take communion again.

I ask how about the boy that impregnated the lady and how about the father of the girl? You see, if you ask questions like that to a typical Nigerian man, he will say'Don't you know that you are a woman'...or 'even things like you will go to Hell'...as if being a woman is the answer to the question

Are you familiar with such stories? Well, they are real. It's not a story to tickle your ears. You see, Africa has continuously put aside cultures that make them stagnant, but guess what...There's still so much work to be done. People easily scream cultures and traditions yet none of them practice JACK once it's not in their favour.
That's just one the ills. You cannot go to church in my village wearing a pair of pants as a woman, or not tying your hair. In Lagos, Uyo you will go to the same mass wearing pants and not tying your hair under the same church denomination, guided and bound by same laws under the same Laws of their Holy Book.
